Laser Prostate Enlargement Treatment with HoLEP

Holmium Laser Enucleation of Prostate, known as HOLEP in short, is a minimally invasive surgical treatment method applied to patients with benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH, benign prostatic hyperplasia).

With this method, the tissue that blocks urine flow in the prostate is removed with a laser. The prostate tissue, which is excised and initially thrown into the bladder, is cut off with a separate equipment and removed piece by piece through an easy urinary tract.

What is Prostate?

The prostate is an organ about the size of a large chestnut located in front of the rectum, between the bladder and the penis. In a healthy and normal adult male, the prostate weighs approximately 20 grams. The urinary canal called the urethra, which carries urine from the bladder to the penis, passes through the middle of the prostate.

What are Prostate Diseases?

There are various diseases that affect the prostate. The most common prostate diseases;

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH, benign prostatic hyperplasia),
prostatitis
It is prostate cancer.

It is recommended that people with a family history of prostate disease have a prostate examination at an early age.

It is also recommended that men in their 50s undergo examination for benign prostatic hyperplasia and other prostate diseases.

What is Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH – Benign prostatic hyperplasia)?

Benign prostatic hyperplasia is also known as BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia). It is a prostate disease that occurs in men with advancing age and progresses with enlargement of the prostate gland. Benign prostate enlargement is not life-threatening, but it seriously reduces the quality of life.

The prostate enlarges and puts pressure on the urethra and lower bladder, restricting the flow of urine. If this limitation is not resolved, it may lead to bladder problems over time and, in later stages, kidney dysfunction (kidney failure).

What Causes Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia?

It is not known exactly what causes benign prostate enlargement. It is thought that hormonal changes that occur with advancing age cause the problem.

Increasing age, having a family history of benign prostatic hyperplasia, diabetes, heart diseases and obesity are among the risk factors for the disease. It is thought that male hormone levels may be effective in the formation of the disease.
