Prostate enlargement is a disease whose prevalence increases with age in men. There is a serious decrease in the quality of life due to this disease. Prostate Resume treatment is an effective and reliable treatment developed in recent years to eliminate the negative effects of the disease.
Treatment options for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also known as prostate enlargement, depend on the severity of symptoms and individual health factors. Generally speaking, the treatment options used in the treatment of BPH are listed below:

Toggle1.Minimally invasive treatments:
These are treatment options developed for patients who do not want to use medication, who do not want to be exposed to long-term medications, who are insufficient for medication but who are uneasy about surgery. These treatments aim to reduce the likelihood of unwanted side effects of the surgery and increase the comfort of life of the patients.
Transurethral microwave therapy (TUMT): This procedure uses microwave energy to shrink the prostate gland. It is entered through the urethra and reaches the bladder neck. Microwave energy is sent into the prostate by taking the bladder neck and the apex of the prostate as the reference points. It is aimed to shrink the prostate with the effect of heat.
Transurethral needle ablation (TUNA): Radiofrequency energy is used to heat and destroy prostate tissue. Similar to TUMT, the bladder neck and external sphincter are determined as two points. A point corresponding to the prostate is entered with the help of a needle. The prostate is heated by sending radiofrequency waves from the needle tip. The effect of heat causes the prostate to shrink.
Prostatic urethral lift (UroLift): In this treatment, small implants are placed to keep the prostate lobes separate and reduce urethral obstruction. Although it does not shrink the prostate, it opens the urination channel and provides relief from urination.
2.Surgical procedures:
Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP): This treatment is performed under the guidance of cystoscopy. It is a very common surgical procedure in which the prostate is removed using a resectoscope inserted through imaging through the urethra. During this procedure, the prostate tissue is cut along a line, just like a doner kebab cuts its meat.
Laser therapy: Various types of laser therapy can be used to remove or vaporize prostate tissue, such as photoselective vaporization of the prostate (PVP, Greenlight) or holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) or Thilium laser. The aim of all laser treatments is to reduce or eliminate prostate tissue and thus facilitate urine flow.
Open prostatectomy: In severe cases or when other treatments are not suitable, open surgery may be performed to remove the enlarged part of the prostate. It was a frequently used method in the past, generally for very large prostates. Today, laser treatments have replaced open surgery as an option even for large prostates.
3.Lifestyle Changes:
Limiting caffeine and alcohol consumption, especially before bed, may help reduce urinary symptoms. Avoiding medications that worsen symptoms and engaging in regular exercise, especially activities that strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, may improve urinary function. On the other hand, it is also important to receive treatment for known existing diseases.
What is resum therapy?
Rezum is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also known as enlarged prostate. During the resorption process, high temperature sterile water vapor (steam) is injected into the prostate tissue, causing the cells to die and shrink over time. This practice reduces the size of the prostate gland, relieving its symptoms such as frequent urination or difficulty and urgency in urinating.
Rezum is typically performed as an outpatient procedure and has been shown to be effective in improving urinary symptoms with minimal side effects.
How is rezum treatment performed?
Rezum is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a condition in which the prostate gland enlarges and blocks the urethra, causing urinary symptoms. Refusion therapy involves using water vapor (steam) to treat enlarged prostate tissue.
1. Preoperative examination: A comprehensive evaluation is performed by a urologist before starting Rezum treatment. During this evaluation, a physical examination may include urine tests, imaging tests (such as ultrasound), and possibly uroflowmetry tests. The prostate cancer screening test, known as PSA, is definitely evaluated, especially in older patients. In some cases, urodynamic studies or pressure flow studies may be required. In all these evaluations, it is tried to understand to what extent the prostate blocks the urinary tract.
2.Type of anesthesia: Resum treatment is usually performed under local anesthesia with or without sedation. During this procedure, a short-term anesthesia is planned so that no pain is felt.
4.Surgical procedure:
The inside of the prostate is viewed by inserting a small, flexible cystoscope (a thin tube with a camera) into the urethra.
A special device called the Resume System is placed inside the prostate, just like in cystoscopy, so that the urethra and prostate are visible. This device provides controlled steam injection to targeted areas of the prostate tissue.
Steam heats and destroys excess prostate tissue, shrinks the gland and relieves urinary obstruction.
The procedure usually takes about 5-10 minutes, depending on the size of the prostate and the extent of treatment needed.
5.Healing process: After the procedure, you may experience some urinary symptoms such as frequency, urgency, and discomfort in urinating. These symptoms usually improve over time as the treated prostate tissue is gradually reabsorbed by the body. Drug treatment to relieve existing symptoms can be continued for approximately 3 months after the procedure.
6.Follow-up: You will have follow-up appointments to monitor improvement and evaluate the effectiveness of Rezum treatment. It is necessary to be patient for a few weeks or months to benefit from the full benefits of the treatment.
